Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Royal Labs LLC ("Royal Labs", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use the Cart AI mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). It also explains your privacy rights and how the law protects you. By using Cart AI, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1. Summary (the short version)
Cart AI is a shopping budget tracker. Most of your data — your trips, items, lists, budgets, and goals — is stored on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData / Core Data).
Our AI price-tag scanning runs entirely on your device using Apple's Vision and Foundation Models frameworks. Photos you take to scan prices are processed locally and are not uploaded to us or any third party.
We use a backend to back up and sync your data across your devices, to power optional account features, and to keep your data safe if you change phones.
We collect analytics about how you use the app (including answers you give during onboarding) to understand our users and improve the product.
We use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework and SKAdNetwork to measure the performance of our advertising in a privacy-preserving way. We only access your device's advertising identifier if you grant permission.
Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed with RevenueCat. We never see or store your full payment card details.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not track your overall financial life.
2. Interpretation and Definitions
Personal Data means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
Usage Data means data collected automatically, either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself (for example, session length and feature usage).
Service means the Cart AI application and any associated websites, backends, and services operated by Royal Labs LLC.
Device means any device that can access the Service, such as an iPhone or iPad.
You means the individual accessing or using the Service.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information stored primarily on your device
The core content you create in Cart AI is stored locally on your device and only leaves it when synced to our backend (see Section 4):
Shopping trips and items — store/trip names, budgets, item names, prices, quantities, categories, units, and timestamps.
Shopping lists and your item bank — saved lists, saved/favorite items, and item price history.
Budgets, savings goals, and progress.
Achievements and badges you earn.
App preferences — selected currency, language, theme (light/dark), and settings.
3.2 Onboarding and analytics data
During onboarding and ordinary use, we collect:
Onboarding responses — answers to setup questions (for example, your shopping habits and goals) used to personalize the experience and to understand our audience in aggregate.
Usage and event analytics — which features you use, funnel and paywall interactions, screens viewed, and similar product-analytics events.
Usage Data — app version, device model, operating system version, language/region settings, time zone, crash and diagnostic data, and general performance metrics.
3.3 Photos and camera (for AI scanning)
Cart AI lets you scan price tags using your camera. Image processing happens entirely on your device using Apple's Vision (OCR and image classification) and, on supported devices, Apple Intelligence Foundation Models for structured extraction.
Photos captured for scanning are processed locally to read prices and item details.
We do not upload these photos to our servers or any third party.
The structured result (for example, an item name and price) may then be stored with your trip and synced like your other content (see Section 4).
3.4 Subscription and purchase data
When you subscribe to Cart AI Pro, the transaction is handled by Apple and managed with RevenueCat. We receive subscription status and related metadata (such as product purchased, trial status, renewal and expiration dates, and anonymized purchase identifiers). We do not receive your full credit card or Apple ID password.
3.5 Advertising and attribution data
To measure the effectiveness of our marketing, we use Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) and SKAdNetwork frameworks, and may work with a mobile measurement partner (MMP).
We ask for your permission before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). If you decline, attribution still works only in Apple's aggregated, privacy-preserving form.
SKAdNetwork conversion values may be sent to ad networks (such as Apple, Meta, and TikTok) at key milestones (for example, install, onboarding complete, trial start, purchase) without identifying you individually.
4. How Your Data Is Stored and Synced
Cart AI is offline-first. Your content is written to on-device storage (SwiftData / Core Data) so the app works without a connection. We also operate a backend that:
backs up your data and syncs it across your devices,
helps restore your data if you reinstall the app or switch phones, and
supports optional account and product features.
Data in transit between your device and our backend is encrypted. We retain synced data for as long as your account/installation is active or as needed to provide the Service, and then delete or anonymize it in line with this Policy (see Sections 7 and 9).
5. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including saving, syncing, and restoring your shopping data.
Run on-device AI scanning and related features.
Personalize your experience based on your onboarding responses and preferences.
Understand how the Service is used and improve features, performance, and reliability.
Manage your subscription, trials, and entitlements.
Measure and improve the performance of our advertising in a privacy-preserving way.
Send you service-related communications and, where you have enabled them, reminders and notifications (for example, trial reminders).
Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse.
Comply with legal obligations.
6. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only as follows:
Service providers who process data on our behalf, including cloud hosting/backend, analytics, crash reporting, and subscription management (RevenueCat). These providers are bound by contracts limiting their use of your data.
Apple, for processing payments, subscriptions, and privacy-preserving ad measurement (SKAdNetwork).
Ad networks and our measurement partner (such as Meta and TikTok), for aggregated, privacy-preserving attribution as described in Section 3.5.
Legal and safety reasons — to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, property, and safety of our users and others.
Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
7. Data Retention
We retain your Personal Data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy, including providing the Service, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing our agreements. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period, except where it is used to strengthen security or improve functionality, or where we are legally required to retain it longer.
8. AI and Foundation Models
Cart AI uses artificial intelligence to read price tags and structure shopping data:
On-device only for scanning. Vision-based text recognition and image classification, and Apple Intelligence Foundation Models (on supported devices running iOS 26 or later), run locally. On devices that do not support Foundation Models, a local heuristic parser is used instead.
No training on your photos. We do not use your scanned photos to train models, and these photos are not sent to our servers or third parties.
AI output can be imperfect; you remain responsible for reviewing prices and totals before relying on them.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights:
Access — request a copy of the Personal Data we hold about you.
Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
Deletion — request deletion of your Personal Data. You can also delete most content directly in the app, and uninstalling the app removes locally stored data from your device.
Restriction / Objection — limit or object to certain processing.
Portability — receive your data in a portable format.
Withdraw consent — including changing your tracking choice anytime in iOS Settings.
To exercise these rights, contact us at support@cartai.app. We will respond consistent with applicable law.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what Personal Data we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate data, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of Personal Data. We do not sell your Personal Data. You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
EEA/UK (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we process your data under legal bases including performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (improving and securing the Service, measuring advertising), consent (tracking and certain notifications), and legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside your state, province, or country, where data-protection laws may differ. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer, subject to applicable law.
11. Children's Privacy
Cart AI is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children. If you believe a child has provided us Personal Data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email before changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
